Biola is a census-designated place (CDP) in Fresno County, California, United States. The population was 1,427 at the 2020 census, down from 1,623 in 2010. Biola is located 6 miles (9.7 km) north-northeast of Kerman,[6] at an elevation of 253 feet (77 m).[5]
Geography
[edit]According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 0.6 square miles (1.6 km2), all land.
History
[edit]Biola was founded by William Kerchoff in 1912.[6] The name was an acronym of the "Bible Institute of Los Angeles".[6] A post office operated in Biola from 1912 to 1918, and from 1920 to the present.[6]

[edit]The 2020 United States census reported that Biola had a population of 1,427. The population density was 2,205.6 inhabitants per square mile (851.6/km2). The racial makeup of Biola was 22.1% White, 0.2% African American, 3.2% Native American, 8.4% Asian, 0.2% Pacific Islander, 50.8% from other races, and 15.0% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 87.1% of the population.
The whole population lived in households. There were 333 households, out of which 54.4% included children under the age of 18, 46.5% were married-couple households, 5.1% were cohabiting couple households, 31.2% had a female householder with no partner present, and 17.1% had a male householder with no partner present. 15.9% of households were one person, and 8.4% were one person aged 65 or older. The average household size was 4.29. There were 272 families (81.7% of all households).
The age distribution was 36.4% under the age of 18, 11.7% aged 18 to 24, 24.7% aged 25 to 44, 19.1% aged 45 to 64, and 8.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 26.2 years. For every 100 females, there were 97.1 males.
There were 344 housing units at an average density of 531.7 units per square mile (205.3 units/km2), of which 333 (96.8%) were occupied. Of these, 53.8% were owner-occupied, and 46.2% were occupied by renters.[23][24]
Climate
[edit]Climate type occurs primarily on the periphery of the true deserts in low-latitude semiarid steppe regions. The Köppen Climate Classification subtype for this climate is "BSk" (Tropical and Subtropical Steppe Climate).[25]
